ABOUT THIS COURSE

INTNA003 LOTOTO and Clearance to Work Awareness is a non-accredited program that walks workers through Lock Out / Tag Out / Try Out (LOTOTO) and Clearance to Work principles at three levels — basic, intermediate and advanced — plus the clearance-to-work concept that releases isolated equipment back to operations.

The program is built on accredited-training principles and structured around four progressive modules so that delivery can be tailored to the audience: a short basic awareness for general workforce, an intermediate module for trades and operators applying their own locks, and an advanced module for isolation officers or supervisors authorising group isolations.

It is delivered as non-accredited training and issues a Certificate of Attendance — the right format when a client site already has its own LOTOTO procedure and wants a structured awareness program that maps to that procedure rather than a standalone accredited qualification.

  • Working under another person’s isolation — when allowed, when not
  • Group isolation procedures and lock boxes
  • Removing locks and tags — the strict rules and the rare exceptions
  • Clearance to work — what it is, when it is required, who issues it
  • Returning equipment to service — verification, sign-off, communication
  • Common LOTOTO failures and the incidents they cause
  • Interaction with the permit-to-work system
  • Reporting and escalating LOTOTO concerns

Assessment

How You’ll Be Assessed

This is non-accredited training. Participants complete supervised practical activities and a knowledge review during the course. A Certificate of Attendance is issued on successful completion — no Statement of Attainment is awarded.

Practical Performance Tasks

1
Identify all energy sources for a simulated piece of equipment
2
Apply a personal lock and tag to an isolation point with correct documentation
3
Conduct a try-out / verification step and document the result
4
Participate in a group isolation using a lock box and group lock procedure
5
Recognise an unsafe LOTOTO scenario in a simulated walk-through and respond correctly
6
Process a clearance-to-work handover for equipment returning to service

Written Assessment

A short knowledge review covering energy sources, the LOTOTO sequence, personal vs group locks, verification and the clearance-to-work concept. Confirms understanding before practical activities begin.
