ABOUT THIS COURSE

RIIRIS201E Conduct local risk control is the worker-level risk unit — the everyday skill of looking at a task, spotting what could go wrong, and putting controls in place before tools come out.

This unit teaches you to apply the risk management cycle at the job level: identify hazards, assess likelihood and consequence, select appropriate controls from the hierarchy, and check that controls are working as the job progresses.

It is the practical companion to RIIWHS201E — where WHS gives you the framework, this unit gives you the doing. Crews use it daily through pre-start meetings, JSEAs, take-5s and dynamic risk assessments.

How You’ll Be Assessed

Assessment combines written knowledge questions with supervised practical performance tasks completed during the course.

Practical Performance Tasks

1
Walk a simulated work area, identify hazards, and document them on a JSEA template
2
Apply a risk matrix to score each identified hazard for likelihood and consequence
3
Select and justify controls for the highest-rated risks using the hierarchy of controls
4
Brief a crew member on the JSEA and confirm their understanding before work begins
5
Conduct a dynamic reassessment when a simulated condition changes mid-task

Written Assessment

Short-answer written questions covering the risk management cycle, the hierarchy of controls, JSEA structure and the limits of worker-level authority.
